Carcassonne (Big Box with 11 expansions)

=> Official Website
=> Rule Book
=> VERY detailed rules (339pgs)
=> Scoring Small Cities & Farms (small cities get 4 points plus 2 extra points for each shield / farms are scored on the basis of fields, one field at a time (thus a city can be counted towards two or more fields)

NOTE: most expansion just add complexity (not fun) so choose carefully! Probably only choose 2 or at most 3 expansions because as you keep adding more and more tiles, they get diluted and you rarely see the new expansion tiles! PLUS with too many expansions, the game takes A REALLY LONG TIME TO PLAY!

***See bottom of this page for the expansions that I have (many with links)

And … here is a POLL to see what expansions people really like and actually include when playing
=> Carcassonne Expansions Poll

Expansions (that I have):

  1. River (use instead of the starter tile)
  2. River 2 (use instead of the starter tile, includes one fork in river tile)
    • => Thin Strip Rules Summary
    • => Unboxing Video
    • Includes 3 bridge tiles.
      • The bridge that connects two city segments does NOT split the two fields. Instead it actually joins the two cities on either side of the bridge to be ONE city.
      • The other two bridge tiles DO split the fields on each side (so there are actually 4 field segments)
    • Includes crossover tiles:
      • Includes 1 “Inn” (for use with Inns & Cathedrals)
      • Includes 1 pig herd that gives 1 extra points for each enclosed city adjacent to its field (it stacks with a pig meeple in Traders & Builders – original rules say you can use it without using Traders & Builders as well)
      • Includes 1 volcano – when played, the player places no meeples on it but immediately gets to play another tile (also for use with Princess & Dragon)
  3. The Phantom (place as a 2nd meeple on a turn)
  4. The Abbot (use gardens & get it back mid-game)
    • => Overview Video
    • => Thin Strip Rules Summary
    • Can only place the Abbot on a monastery or a garden (which scores like a monastery).
    • On your turn, after placing a tile, instead of placing a meeple, you can remove your Abbot from the playing area back to your supply. You score it’s points just like you would at the end of the game (1 point per adjacent or diagonal tile plus 1 point for the monastery or garden).
  5. Inns & Cathedrals (double your points or no points if not completed)
  6. Traders & Builders (goods and pigs give boosts to scores)
    • => Thin Strip Rules Summary
    • Builder meeple (get an extra turn)
    • Goods tokens (go in cities)
    • Pig meeple (put on field bonus scoring)
  7. Flying Machines (invade or reinforce or just grab)
  8. Messages (can get you more points, free tiles, etc)
  9. Ferries (adjustable roads)
  10. Gold Mines (gold is placed on tiles, when claiming points get the gold to cash in for more points at end of game)
  11. Mage & Witch (can double points or cut them in half)
  12. Robbers (take that mechanic – steals points)
  13. Crop Circles (add or remove your Meeples, or force others to play a meeple)
  14. Festival (get a meeple back to your supply from the board)
  15. Count (& City) 2 large starting tiles (normal map features OR also with abilities)
    • => Overview Video (abilities side which is not fun and a bit cumbersome)
    • => Overview and playthrough (you can use the flip side of the large city tile without the abilities for a quick significant starting map)
  16. King & Robber (longest road, biggest city tokens – place on players score pad at the tile count that others must beat or get those points)
  17. Cultist / Cult (heretic monastery competes with standard monastery)
