Spirit Island (2017) (Coop & Solo)

Many articles and reviews have been mentioning Spirit Island as a great game, including these from Polygon: 5 Best Coop Games and 5 Best Solo Games

Tips from Kim Tolson:
Just take your time and play with the basic spirits (easy ones) and you’ll be able to handle the game just fine! Then you can move on to playing with those more complex, challenging spirits:)
I think it’s easier with two players. Louis agrees. There’s a lot of coordination needed and when you have just two people, it’s easier to plan and communicate.

Many of my favorite reviewers have videos on Spirit Island including Kim Tolson, Rahdo, Meeple University, Jon Gets Games, Gaming Rules (Paul Grogan), Before You Play (Monique & Naveen) and One Stop Co-op Shop. So you can pick which of their video’s you’d like to watch!

Actually … Monique says it is her favorite Coop Game! Here is the video for that (queued up to the right spot):

And here is the playthrough of a Beginners Game from them:

Peaky gives a nice How To video:

Meeple University thinks you should know the STORY about the game before you learn the rules on how to play it!

Paul Grogan (Gaming Rules) actually writes game manuals as his job! PLUS he has explained (clearly but in detail) the rules for dozens (hundreds?) of games … he thinks this is a HARD game for four players (or even 3) but very good with two players:

Jon Gets Games – he does a very good job explaining what the game is:

Full Playthrough:

One Stop Co-op Shop has a run through but starts by explaining a common mistake in setting up the game that makes it MUCH HARDER!

Rahdo has five videos, but they are all with the prototype of the game (and game is a great looking final game, so maybe watch a video with the real game first) => Rahdo’s 5 Videos

Finally just a quick recommendation from Kim and her husband … I enjoy her perspective on games (plus the fact that she uses them in her classroom). She made a video of cooperative games that she and her husband think are essential for people to have in their game collection:

And a playthrough with a bit more of a challenge added (intermediate level):
