Strategy tips if you are losing a lot:
- How do you normally lose? If you take too much damage, focus on shooting more down. If the mother hits, focus on research more b/c you’re going too slow on that. Or try harder to avoid mothership-descending sky effects.
- I like to hit the excavator hard early on. I try to move the excavator 5 or 6 spaces the first 3 turns. Sometimes I’ve spent the whole first turn moving every other ship by 0 or 1 and have the excavator move 6.
- I personally try to avoid landing on mothership descending sky effect at all costs. Well, most costs. I will intentionally hit a mothership-descending effect to avoid losing 3 to my excavator usually, when that one comes up.
- Use robots wisely. Shoot for 5’s or 6’s for robots. They give you room effects without moving ships. I use them for shooting rooms and energy rooms most often, ideally +1 modify versions of those rooms. Then you can focus on getting as much movement as possible (and most bang for your buck in the rooms), while ensuring as many as possible land on explody-spaces in the sky. Do that for several turns if you can get it.
- If there’s an empty column, try to get as high a die as possible in it – no ship movement. You can sometimes funnel 2,3,4 ships into one column, then use the AA room to keep them stuck in place while you go with high dice in the other columns. This strategy doesn’t land in your lap that often and usually only works for 2-3 turns, but is nice when it happens.
